Our History

Family-Owned and Operated Since 1943

In 1943, Edward Jacobson opened Jacobson Floral Supply, Inc. (Jacobson) to provide high quality ribbon for floral bouquets and arrangements to retail florists.

He set up operations in a small garage next to his apartment in Brighton, Massachusetts, and as he expanded the company's inventory beyond ribbon, he later moved the business to Tremont Street in Boston.

Edward’s sons, Murray and Alan “Buddy” Jacobson joined the business and in 1970, moved the company again to a state-of-the-art facility at 500 Albany Street. Buddy wanted customers to be able to walk around with shopping carts, browsing our wide selection of products and being able to touch and feel the various textures, materials, and weights of each product. Customer service was his top priority, so he hired product experts for importing and selling to ensure unbeatable quality and support for customers.

In 1987, Buddy assumed the role of CEO and President of Jacobson. He became an integral and respected leader in the Floral Industry, active in Society of American Florists (SAF) and Wholesale Florist & Florist Supplier Association (WF&FSA) from 1989 to 2001. Buddy was President of WF&FSA in 1999 and awarded the prestigious LTK award for Distinguished Service to the Floral Industry in 2010. Check out the video honoring his career here.

Buddy’s son Bill joined the company in 1987, working closely with his Dad to innovate and grow Jacobson’s offerings. Together, they built a well-rounded executive team including Joe Riley (Sales Director), John Cushman (CFO), and Nick Fronduto (COO). In 2006, Jacobson expanded into a state-of-the-art storage and distribution facility in Braintree, Massachusetts, empowering the company to expand relationships with supermarket customers such as Giant Food Stores, Stop & Shop, and Price Chopper. In 2009, Jacobson became one of the first floral supply wholesalers to launch a full-service ecommerce web site.

In 2001, Bill took over as President of Jacobson. Bill and Nick maintained strong relationships with SAF and WF&FSA, with Nick serving as WF&FSA President in 2011.

In 2017, with the closing of the Boston Flower Exchange, Jacobson became the only one-stop wholesale shopping solution for floral customers in Boston with Quinlan Wasserman joining our facility at 500 Albany Street.

In 2023, Jacobson celebrated its 80th anniversary. We remain dedicated to our mission of providing high-quality products and exceptional customer service as we continue to serve and inspire customers in-store, through distribution, and online through our website.
